Are you an experienced player, looking for a tough computer challenger designed to push you to the limits?  Or are you a beginner, looking for an opponent with your equivalent level of skill?  Either way, backgammon software will permit you to find your match.  Just select the type of player you would like to meet– aggressive or passive, defensive or attacking and the computer will automatically take on that persona. Select also the level of play and your computer opponent will gladly oblige.

The computer will also allow you to set up board to try out different strategies.  Want to see how you could escape from a blocked home board?  Well, just set up the scene on your computer screen, and let the computer do the rest.  The computer will also let you save your current game with the option of going back to it later.

Backgammon software has now become so sophisticated that many programs provide the option of an online tutor.  Not only is the computer trying to beat you, but it’s also telling you how to beat the computer!  Some programs will explain possible moves and strategies in great detail, while others will simply offer a gentle hint.  The choice of online help is up to you.

Finally, if you can’t be bothered keeping track of the statistics, then let your computer do it for you.  The one thing you can be sure about – it won’t cheat!
